My favourite blushes of all time! (Part 2)

Hi all!

Sorry for procrastinating this post... It has been a busy couple of weeks and tonight is the first night that I can finally sit down and finish this two-part saga :). Let's keep this short and sweet, shall we?

To kick off this post with a bang, my next favourite blush is Rock & Republic Call Me. Rock & Republic makes these super soft, super pigmented blushes that come in a hefty compact! The total product mass is 9 grams, which is double the size of a Shu Uemura blush! Yikes! I don't think I will ever hit pan on this baby...
Rock & Republic Compact
See how it just lays down on the skin like it belongs there? You don't get that from glittery blushes, especially from the famed Nars Orgasm. Nars Orgasm was a total disappointment for me.

I was introduced to the Illamasqua on my last trip to Melbourne with my dearest friend Wei (to watch Enrique in concert, yay! ^.^) and ever since then I have been obsessed with their blushes. My favourite blush from Illamasqua is a cream blush (yes, cream!) in a shade called Rude. Oh. My. God. I just love the feel of this blush (or any Illamasqua cream blushes). They feel emollient and have a lot of slip so there is no tugging on your cheeks on application.

Top to Bottom: Intense Lipgloss in Femme, Powder Blush in Lover, Cream Blush in Rude

And lastly, we have Laura Mercier blushes. In particular, the shades Apricot Blossom and Lotus from the Colour Wardrobe palette (Holiday '10). This palette was my introduction to Laura Mercier and I have been in love ever since. Her eyeshadows are soft and buttery (especially the chocolate shade in this palette). Her lip stains and lip glosses are amaaaazing and long lasting. I have tried every shade of lip stain and lip gloss in the palette and love them all! Her second skin cheek colours are exactly as the name describes. Laura Mercier blushes impart a pretty flush makes you look like you are glowing from within.

And here is an extra swatch picture of all the eyeshadows in the palette! Aren't they delicious?? For a more thorough review and swatches of this palette, visit The Beauty Look Book.
Till next time,

Sneak Peak: Burberry Beauty

I have no idea what took me so long to pay attention to Burberry Beauty.  Perhaps it's because their ad campaigns always look like the models are wearing mundane makeup colors, they don't have bright, eye catching colors or that its luxury was reflected by the prices.  Whatever the hang up was for me, I quickly got over it as soon as I tried their products.  The colors are not mundane.  They are colors that you can wear everyday and that you can get a lot of milage from.

Since my first visit to the Burberry Beauty counter, I have worn at least one item from my (fast) growing collection.

(clockwise from the top) Fresh Glow, Sheer Luminous Foundation, Effortless Volumizing Mascara, Eye Definer, mini lipstick (part of GWP), Sheer Eyeshadow in Gold Trench and Midnight Brown, Light glow in Tangerine and Misty
Stay tuned for reviews and swatches!

My favourite blushes of all time! (Part 1)

I received a request by one of my best friends to review blushes, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to  blog about my favourite blushes!

The first blush that I will talk about is MAC Ripe Peach. MAC is not a brand that I use besides the occasional limited edition items, and even then, it needs to be something special - be it the packaging (Wonder Woman Collection), or new, unique colours with above average quality (Mac Peacocky and Spring Colour Forecast).

MAC Ripe Peach is just special. It is a graduated peachy shimmery blush that changes colour from a strawberry peachy blush to a light peach. It actually does look like a ripe peach!

Ripe Peach is the most natural looking peach blush ever!! Normally, I would never say that a peach blush can look natural, because lets be honest - who here on Planet Earth actually blushes peach?? For most people, the most natural blush colour would have a pink, nude or brown base.

Next up are the infamous Chanel Joues Contraste Blushes. These are pretty expensive and so I am pretty picky when it comes to choosing which colours are the most flattering. For your reference, I have a light-medium complexion with warm undertones (Laura Mercier Sunny Beige).

I have five Chanel JCs to date - Narcisse (EU), Reflex (US), Espiegle (US), Pink Explosion (EU) and Fresque (EU). Chanel JCs are some of the best blushes you can own if you can stand the strong rose scent emanating from the blush. They are soft and not overly pigmented so you can never overdo it and end up looking like a clown. JCs blend into your skin perfectly and gives you a natural finish.

Note: European (EU) JCs are baked and weigh in at 4 g, while the lucky people in the US gets the older version of JCs which weigh in at 6 g. There is a slight difference in application and texture but I find that overall the US version is more powdery, while the EU version is of harder texture but more glowy (and a little sheerer).

Another favourite blusher of mine is made by Korres. Korres originated in Greece and this brand markets itself as an all natural makeup company which I really dig. Korres blushes are super expensive here in Australia, so if you can get someone to pick it up for you from the US or Greece, you can potentially save a LOT of money :). Anyway, Korres makes these super finely milled blushes that are a cinch to apply! I usually need to go easy on these because they are really pigmented and you can easily overdo it. My favourite shade is Coral (45), because eventhough it is a matte blush, it makes your cheeks glow! Love it!

Lastly, there are Shu Uemura blushes! I am becoming more and more fond of Shu Uemura lately because I find that they are very reasonably priced - on par with MAC, and I think they have better quality too :). Shu Uemura blushes have decent pigmentation and they have a great colour selection. My current favourite is P 366 Medium Coral. This colour is a bright pinky coral with gold shimmer and is very flatering and brightening.

See you lovely ladies! Stay tuned for Part 2 :)

Giorgio Armani Fall Collection 2011 - Jacquard Woven Face Palette

Have you seen the Armani Jacquard Face Palette yet?  It's part of the Fall 2011 Collection along with two eye palettes (Jacquard Woven Eye Palette 2 was reviewed by Cindy here).  It contains an ivory highlighter, a bronze and a beige shade for contouring and a bright red pop of color.  The colors in the palette look so beautiful and they glisten in the light.  Just like the eyeshadow palettes, these feel so smooth and almost creamy.  You can see how pigmented the colors are with just one swipe of an eyeshadow brush.

It took me a bit of experimenting to get the right combination of colors out of this palette.  The first few times, I was getting either too much of the white highlight or the red color and I end up looking like I'm frosted.  Only good if you're a cupcake!  After a bit of experimenting, I finally figured out a way to get the right combination. I apply a blend of the middle shades first then layer a touch of the highlighter on my cheekbones and a light application of the red blusher on the apples of my cheeks.

The SA suggested that this palette could also be used on the eyes but I'm not daring enough for that!

Now that I have the application technique down, this blush is a must have!  It gives me a nice flush of color and a light glow.  Stunning enough to wear on a night out and subtle enough for a day at work.
