Ellis Faas Makeup Arsenal

I got my very first parcel from Ellis Faas today!  I was so excited that could not run back into the house fast enough to open it.

I ordered their Concealer in S203, Creamy Lips in L108 and Milky Lips in L207.  Since I took advantage of their Valentines promotion (where they 'doubled the pleasure of your Ellis Lips order!'), I also received Glazed Lips in L309 (which I really wanted after reading this post by Jenny from My Funny Valentine, she made it look so special) and Milky Lips in L206.  Lastly, they also in 5 clips so I can connect my pens together.  I could not be happier with what I received.

Just a quick look at the lip colours that I got:
Top to Bottom: Creamy Lips L108, Milky Lips L206, Glazed Lips L309 (barely visible) and Milky Lips L 207
Their current promotion is order a concealer and get 10% of on your entire order (coupon code: SNOWS200).  Read more about this promotion on their Facebook page.

I'm now ready to face the day with my Ellis Faas makeup arsenal!

New Skincare Routine: Kiehl's

Before Christmas, I found myself browsing through a Kiehl's store.  I had no intention of buying anything since I was just accompanying a friend but an SA approached me and offer to do a little skincare consultation.  I said yes to kill time and didn't expect much.

We talked about my skin and how it feels (oily on the forehead, dryness on the nose and cheeks) and what I'm most concerned about (my big monthly breakouts and the dry lines that I keep seeing on my nose and cheeks and some pigmentation on my cheeks).  She also did a hydration test which confirmed to her I had combination to oily skin (I say that because I'm not entirely convinced that the little strip that she pressed against my skin to test hydration didn't just collect the oil on my forehead).  Of course, after that, she recommended some products.

For my combination to oily skin she recommended the Ultra Facial Cleanser, Ultra Facial Toner, Ultra Facial Moisturizer, Ultra Facial Cream and, of course, Super Fluid UV Defense.  For night, she suggested I use the Midnight Recovery Concentrate when I'm feeling extra dry.

That day, I bought nothing but the SA still sent me home with almost everything she recommended for me.

A couple of days after visiting the store, I found myself out of cleanser!  I rummaged through my drawers and found the samples I was given.  Now, I was told that I should only try one new product at a time so that you know what works, what doesn't or if you develop any negative reactions.  Naturally, I decided to break the rules and use everything all at once!

Luckily, none of the products that I tried caused any irritations.   If anything, it made my skin smooth and hydrated.  I might even go as far as saying it was glowing!  Needless to say, I bought everything a few days later.  No wonder they've been around since 1851!

What are your favourite Kiehl's products?

NOTD: Essie Mint Candy Apple

Today's post will be short and sweet. I decided to be adventurous this weekend and selected OPI Mint Candy Apple for my manicure. I used three coats, and topped it with OPI Start to Finish. The photo was taken in full sun.

Bottom Line: The formula is gloopy, thick and uneven. You NEED three coats to get a nice even manicure. The colour is great though - a creamy, pastel greeny light blue that looks great for spring and summer.

Till next time,

xoxo

Update- 03/3/2012: I checked my other Essie polishes and this one seems to be the only formula that was difficult to work with. As I said in the comments section, this bottle of polish is now quite old so I probably need to add a little of Seche Restore to thin it out. Hope that helps! :P

Guest Post: Feel Beautiful Being You!

A few weeks ago I was approached by Jackie Clark, who does outreach for the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance, a leading web resource for mesothelioma cancer. Jackie has always had a passion for fashion-from shoes to makeup, nail polish to handbags, and everything in between! Coupled with that is belief that all women need to feel beautiful, no matter what circumstances they may be facing. So without further ado...

Feel Beautiful Being You!
By: Jackie Clark

Beauty comes from within. Women around the world have been told that beauty is only skin deep – it is what is inside us that truly counts. Cliché as it may seem, it is indeed the truth. Besides, everyone, everywhere is beautiful in his or her own unique way. It is one of the miracles of life: there are no two people alike, and for that reason we are all lovely, unique creatures with special talents and gifts.

Cancer does not have to take away from your beauty. In fact, it can make you more gorgeous than you already are. There are many ways to showcase your natural highlights; like smiling. Smiling is a stunning asset that everyone – young or old, male or female – can use. An unknown author once said, “I’ve never seen a smiling face that is not beautiful.” How true!

Grey Livingston said, “Beauty comes as much from the mind as from the eye.” And while this is extremely true, using cosmetic products like makeup can highlight the beautiful features you already have. For example, everybody blushes at one point or another. It is an attractive feature of the feminine cheek. A light sweep of blush across the apples of your cheek will create the illusion of perpetual rosy cheeks. Not only that, but it will bring out the color of your eyes. Your eyes are the most useful aspect of your body, beauty-wise. They adorn the face like jewelry, and they can be dressed up or down, so to speak. Eye makeup can light up the entire façade. A simple sweep of eyeliner or eye shadow brings out the color in your eyes and makes them look larger and more opalescent. A quick brush of mascara across the lashes will also brighten the look of eyes. It is an easy, quick way to look put-together.

Mesothelioma is a difficult illness to deal with. Enduring treatment, visiting doctors, and dealing with a negative prognosis can all seemingly take away from the joy of living. But a positive attitude and a fighting spirit can overcome any bad circumstance. Feeling comfortable in your own skin is one of the keys to fighting cancer and emerging victorious.

Whether it’s hair loss or feeling sick, putting a little effort into your appearance can make your spirit buoy. Modern technology renders the most authentic looking wigs. Maybe you’ll wear that hairstyle you’ve always wanted. Take the chance to flaunt your confidence – nothing says, “I’m gorgeous” like having a confident attitude towards everything: life, love and self-image.

Couple makeup with beautiful clothing and you can’t help but feel beautiful. Wear your favorite clothes everyday! Dress up for casual occasions making them special to you. Wear the daring outfit you’ve always wanted. However, remember no matter what you are beautiful with our without cancer.

I know that there are lots of you who know someone, or related to someone who has had to deal with cancer so I hope you have enjoyed Jackie's article.

Till next time,

xoxo
