Makeup Trend : Vampy Lips

I must admit. I am not usually for the latest trends in makeup, fashion etc etc. I prefer more classic items that never go out of style and the same goes for my makeup collection as well.

I blame my fellow blogger, Reika, for my falling victim to the vampy lip bandwagon with her Black Orchid FOTD here. I decided to purchase Becca's Ultimate Colour Gloss in Berry Twist. It looks like a very dark plum in the tube but it applies very beautifully.

I will show you two ways to apply this gloss. In the first one, directly below, I have applied one pump of lip gloss and smeared it on my bottom lip. I then purse my lips together to distribute the gloss over my whole top and bottom lips. You can then use the little remaining gloss on the wand to fix the lip line or add a touch more to certain areas.

One coat of the gloss will give you a berry stain, with minimal shine but still the comfortable feeling of a moisturising balm. I love wearing the gloss this way, as it is "tame" enough for office wear.

The lip swatch below was done with two coats. As you can see, the colour is significantly more opaque, and really emphasises any dryness and imperfections on your lips. This is not uncommon for very pigmented lip products.

I looove this gloss. I wish I bought more colours from Sephora. With every new product that I try from Becca, I fall in love with the line more and more. The Ultimate Colour Gloss is richly pigmented, and feels very  comfortable on the lips. Its quite moisturising (though I don't expect lip glosses to be moisturising at all), and has a delectable shine rivaling my favourite Chanel Glossimers. There is a slight vanilla scent when you first apply the gloss but its not detectable after a few seconds.

Happy Boxing Day everyone!!

FOTD in Shu Uemura Prestigious Bordeaux and Ciate Nails

Just a quick post to fill the gap that is my absence for the last 4 weeks. I have been traveling around the US and Canada and I simply had no time to do any post updates.

On another note, I have decided to take another job prior to leaving on this holiday and so the past 6 weeks have been simply hectic!!

Haha... I can't stop giggling at the above picture. I am no nail or hand model alright.

These pictures were taken after I came home from a full day of shopping etc. I was happy to see that the shadows held up beautifully over my Shu Uemura cream eyeshadow base. I purchased Urban Decay's eyeshadow primer potion in the US and its actually so much better than the Shu!!

Product breakdown:
- Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation in Sand Beige
- Becca Anniversary Palette in Dusty Rose on cheeks (Tuberose lip & cheek creme and Narcissus highlighter)
- Shu Uemura Prestigious Bordeaux palette (bronze on eyelid, dark purple in outer v and lower lashline, light purple to blend harsh edges and lightly on the inner corner, light tan on the inner eyelid, gold glitter in the middle of the lid) - I love the colours on this palette!! Rich, jewel tones are the bomb!
- Maybelline Falsies Mascara

Hope you enjoyed this look!!

Makeup in Candy Eyes - Spring Inspired FOTD

Today I am showing you a makeup look that I did with my niece last weekend, and it was inspired by Lisa Eldridge's Candy Colours video where she used Givenchy's quad in  Bucolic Blossoms.

The quad that I will be using today is Le Metier de Beaute's Pallid Incandescents, with a touch of Shu Uemura's Burning in Water palette.

My preference for the placement of these beautiful spring shades are below;
  • teal in the inner half of the lid (PI),
  • purple in the outer half of the lid(PI) and also to line the inner lower lashline,
  • orange in the crease(PI),
  • light pink on the browbone(PI),
  • gold glitter on the inner corner (BIW),
  • blue eyeliner (Artemis) underneath dark blue shade (BIW) on upper lashline and outer lower lashline.
For this face of the day look, I wanted the lashes to be well curled and well defined. I used Shu Uemura's lash curler (the best, I swear by it) and Lancome's Hypnose.

For the lips and cheeks, I chose to use my trusty Becca Anniversary Palette in Dusty Rose.  The shades I used were the lip and cheek creme in Tuberose (right bottom corner in the picture) and Narcissus to highlight. For those of you wondering, the picture below shows the true colours of the palette. In my original review, the photos were taken using a camera phone (!!). Ah, how far I have come with technology :P

Base products:
  • Nars Sheer Glow Foundation in Fiji
  • Vaseline to prep the lips (my lip balm was MIA)
Overall, I'm really happy with how this photo session turned out!! I hope I can do more of these Saturday makeover sessions with my niece ;)

All photos were not retouched in any way with the exception of the last picture below (yes, i wanted to have an instagram-like effect) :) We were blessed with loads of natural sunlight that day , despite the gloomy weather forecast :D

Miccala is just too gorgeous for words!! <3

Aurora Inspired FOTD

I asked Anna to model some makeup for me on the weekend and after much discussion, I decided on an Aurora inspired Face of The Day post :)

We were blessed with rain and clouds on the day so I could not get many nice photos but I hope you enjoy them regardless.

"In northern latitudes, the effect is known as the aurora borealis (or the northern lights), named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for the north wind, Boreas, by Pierre Gassendi in 1621. Auroras seen near the magnetic pole may be high overhead, but from farther away, they illuminate the northern horizon as a greenish glow or sometimes a faint red, as if the Sun were rising from an unusual direction."

My hand is going to star in this particular pic... =P

For this FOTD, I used the following products on Anna:

Face - Shu Uemura Stage Performer Instant Glow, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation #B40, Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder, Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage #3

Cheeks - Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush #5, Kevyn Aucoin Shadore, Bobbi Brown Bronze Shimmerbrick

Lips - Le Metier de Beaute Aurora Lip Kit (reviewed here)

Eyes - Mac Pigments in Grape and Teal (Grape as base, then teal on the inner eyelid area and to blend outer edges), Heroine Kiss Me Make Long & Curl Mascara

What do you think? Does she look gorgeous or what?!?
